Domain names and hosting

Domain names and hosting are both needed to keep your website online. Here’s a list of who looks after what.

Domain names

These are the domain names which we do manage for you:

• openbethelehem.org
• openbethlehem.co.uk (this redirects people to openbethlehem.org)
• planetbethlehem.com

These are the domain names which we don’t manage:

• planetbethlehem.org (Hosted on Reclaim and managed by Jacob. We have access to Jacob’s account).

Hosting

These are the websites we do host for you:

• The Planet Bethlehem website
• The new Planet Bethlehem Archive site

These are the websites which we do not host for you you:

• The current Planet Bethlehem Archive site ( planetbethlehem.org - hosted on Reclaim and managed by Jacob. We have access to Jacob’s account).
• Open Bethlehem (managed by Maxim’s Weebly account. Currently offline because the plan was not renewed).

Tip

Websites need 2 things to be available on the web:

1. A domain name
2. Hosting

These are separate things, and can be managed by different people or companies.

Quick analogy: A domain name is like your website’s phone number, while the hosting is like your physical property where all your content, images, files etc live.

Just like a phone number allows people to reach you at your property, a domain name allows people to reach your website content.
